Direct speech (kalimat langsung) ialah kata-kata atau kalimat yang diucapkan langsung oleh pembicara (orang pertama) dan ditulis apa adanya menggunakan tanda petik ("...").

Contohnya adalah “You will go away for seconds, not hours,” Edmund said.

Sedangkan indirect speech (kalimat tidak langsung) kalimat yang diucapkan untuk menyampaikan pernyataan seseorang.

Contohnya adalah Edmund said that I would go away for seconds, not hours.

A. Direct Speech
