Student A: Learning English is important because it is a means of communication with different people around the world.

Student B: I don't think it is important.

Student A: I do not agree with you. English is an international language that is widely used.

Student B: Aren't many of the most widely spoken languages in the world?

Student A: Yes, there are lots of languages that are used the most. But English is spoken by 2 billion people worldwide in 2022.

Student B: Then, what is the function of learning English?

Student A: English is spoken as an international language in more than 90 percent of countries. If we go abroad, we will use English to facilitate communication.

Student B: What is the function of learning English for students like us?

Student A: English is often used in conveying information and knowledge at school. So, Indonesian students will have broader insights if they can speak English and regularly use it to find information. In international forums, communications are conducted in English.
