The issue of wearing face coverings in public comes up frequently these days. A common sentiment is, “If I am not personally at high risk for COVID-19, why should I wear a mask?” I suspect this is why I see so many people in public places who are not covering their nose and mouth.

The CDC has recommended “wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.”

Arguments:

The reason for this is that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread even before symptoms appear, by such things as coughing, sneezing, or even speaking at close range, study finds.

Cloth face coverings have been recommended due to their low cost and ready availability.

By using cloth face coverings, it preserves surgical masks and N-95 masks for healthcare workers who may be involved in direct care of patients with COVID-19.

The importance of using face coverings in public can decrease the risk of the infection, that is what the health authority suggests.

This, in conjunction with social distancing and frequent handwashing or use of hand sanitizer, will be important in limiting the spread of COVID-19 as we return to our usual activities.

Thesis:

The global pandemic is becoming the new issue when the government established the vaccination policy that stated that we are all obligated to get vaccinated.

However, there are people that agree and disagree to the vaccination policy. The vaccination itself is the most effective way to decrease and control the transmission.

Here are the reasons why we should get vaccine.

Arguments:

Data from ongoing studies show evidence that people can get added protection by getting vaccinated after having been infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. Even if you have had COVID-19, you should still get vaccinated.

For anyone who has been infected with COVID-19, their next dose can be delayed 3 months from when symptoms started or, if they did not have symptoms, when they received a positive test. This possible delay can happen with a primary dose or a booster dose.

Vaccines work by ‘teaching’ our immune system to rapidly identify an infectious agent and to effectively respond against it.

Traditionally, vaccines have done this by introducing a weakened form of an infectious agent that allows our immune system to build a memory of it. This way, our immune system can quickly recognize and fight it before it makes us ill.

Even though COVID-19 vaccines are being developed as rapidly as possible, they must go through rigorous testing in clinical trials to prove that they meet internationally agreed benchmarks for safety and effectiveness.

Thanks to the unprecedented investment in research and development and global cooperation, scientists were able to develop safe and effective vaccines against COVID-19 in record time.

All the standard safety procedures and rigorous regulatory standards were maintained.

In addition to the COVID-19 vaccines currently in use in many countries around the world, it is hugely encouraging to see there are more than 200 vaccine candidates in different stages of development.

A number of these are in Phase III clinical trials – the final step before a vaccine is approved.
